MAC Coalition Fix the Tix's Day of Action Sparks 65K Letters to Congress
MusicAlly | Fix the Tix day of action sparks 65k letters to Congress
Earlier this month we reported on plans for a ‘Day of Action’ from US collective Fix the Tix, to encourage senators to pass the Fans First Act legislation. The day was set for 9 July, so how did it go? It went well, according to the coalition.
It said that more than 65,000 letters and messages were sent to members of Congress and to the White House. Some famous musicians were among the writers: Billie Eilish, Graham Nash, Blind Boys of Alabama, Suzanne Vega and more took part.
“This week’s actions send a clear message to Congress that the time for comprehensive reform is now,” said Stephen Parker, executive director of indie venues association NIVA, which leads the coalition. “This country needs legislation that bans fake tickets, ends price gouging, and illegalises deceptive marketing tactics.”
In separate news, one of the most prominent secondary-ticketing platforms, StubHub, is delaying its planned IPO this summer. CNBC reported that “stagnant market conditions” spurred the delay, although the company has not commented. Reports earlier this year suggested that StubHub was hoping for a valuation of at least $16.5bn in its IPO.
