For Artists.
In an age when major labels, tech giants, and streaming platforms dominate, songwriters and working musicians are severely underrepresented.
The music industry is quickly evolving. Decisions are being made today that will impact creators for decades. Without robust advocacy, artists will continue to face an uphill battle, not only affecting their financial stability, but stifling creativity and innovation.
As artists pour their heart and soul into their craft, they deserve fair compensation, ownership rights, and access to resources that support their long-term wellbeing.
The Music Artists Coalition is dedicated to advocating for all aspects of an artist’s career. We believe that music creators should have a seat at the table, driving the strategy and conversation about the issues that shape their lives and livelihoods.
We are the voice for music creators and of music creators.
Our History:
In 2019, Music Artists Coalition was formed as a bold answer to a long-standing but accelerating problem: musicians’ rights were being sidelined in industry-shaping decisions while technology and corporate interests increased their influence, reshaping the industry.
The passing of the 2018 Music Modernization Act (MMA) was a tipping point, revealing a lack of representation for creators and performers in the writing of legislation critical to their livelihoods. Longtime music industry power players Irving Azoff, Coran Capshaw, John Silva, Susan Genco, Jack Quinn, Jordan Bromley, Kristen Foster, Ali Harnell, Jim Cicconi, and Elliot Groffman, along with influential artists and advocates like Dave Matthews, Anderson Paak, Don Henley, Meghan Trainor, Maren Morris, Verdine White, and Shane McAnally saw an urgent need to act.
While the MMA was a step forward, its passing sparked a larger conversation about how to address this gap in fair and equal representation for musicians in the future.
Existing organizations could not properly represent the interests of artists while also catering to the objectives of record labels, publishers, and streaming platforms. A new group was necessary, one unflinchingly dedicated to amplifying music creators’ voices. A new group that did not just represent one facet of the business but ALL music artists. A diverse group of artists, songwriters, performers, managers, attorneys, and industry experts came together to form MAC, becoming a united voice to advocate for artists.
Focused on protecting the rights, financial security, and creative freedoms of musicians, the organization has already made significant impact shaping public policy. In partnership with other powerful interest-aligned music industry organizations, we fight to address critical ISSUES, standing behind artists when their rights are threatened.
In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, MAC serves as an influential advocate for creators’ business interests, from fair compensation to intellectual property protections. The group is committed to ensuring that artists have the support, resources, and representation they deserve, and determined to guarantee they always have a seat at the table in critical conversations that shape the future of music.
